Welcome to Loudoun County, Virginia! Loudoun is proud to host the 2008 10U Babe Ruth Softball National Invitational Tournament. This is a prestigious honor for the county and for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Loudoun County is the envy of many communities. Located 25 miles west of Washington, D.C. and stretching to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the area is surrounded by physical beauty, while serving as a vital hub for technology and suburban development. Residents and visitors alike are drawn to the mountains, rivers, small towns, farms, historic resources and open spaces. Dulles International Airport, serving the growing number of businesses and leisure travelers, is located in the eastern part of the county, along with an impressive number of major commercial enterprises. the area’s pools and water parks, hike in a nature preserve, or enjoy a tranquil stroll through one of the historic districts. The county’s network of regional and community parks offer diverse recreational opportunities and facilities for all ages. Loudoun also offers an array of cultural amenities. The county’s rich agricultural past is showcased at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum. The newest National Air & Space Musuem, the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center, is located in Loudoun. There’s also a Greek Revival Mansion, a Civil War battlefield, the nation’s second smallest National Cemetery, and an 18th century restored Quaker Village.
Visitors to Loudoun can choose from a variety of hotels, motels and inns that accommodate a wide range of tastes and budgets. The abundance and variety of local restaurants will tempt even the most discerning of tastebuds. And shoppers can “shop ‘til they drop” at the county’s indoor shopping mall, antiques stores, outlet center, specialty shops and boutiques. The 2008 tournament represents the first time that Loudoun has been selected to host a Babe Ruth National Invitational Tournament . The site for this year’s event, Woodgrove Park, is a community ball park operated by Loudoun County Parks and Recreation in conjunction with local baseball and softball leagues. The field has taken on improvements over the last year with in addition of scoreboards.
