Clemmons, North Carolina

The Southwest Athletics Babe Ruth League, the premier baseball and softball organization in the Triad for players 4-18, will serve as the host of the 2019 Cal Ripken 10-Year-Old World Series.  The games will be played at the Southwest Athletics Complex.

Southwest has been a premier location for the youth of Forsyth County to play baseball and softball since 1963.  Baseball and Softball are played at Southwest ten months out of every year; many of the fields are AstroTurf, which allows ball to be played from February to November.  

Clemmons is a village located in Forsyth, North Carolina and a superb of Winston-Salem.  The Triad is fortunate to maintain a large variety of cultural, educational and recreational facilities and activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Tanglewood Park provides an array of activities, including fishing on two stocked lakes, pedal boats, tennis courts, an Aquatic Center, picnic shelters, trail systems, horse stables, gardens, golf and more.  Clemmons Educational State Forest offers a mix of pine and hardwood vegetation and a pleasant rolling terrain suited for hiking enthusiasts.  The forest has a series of well-marked trails, enhanced with educational exhibits and displays about the ecology of a managed forest.  A fascinating feature, especially to children, is a selection of talking trees and rocks who weave tables about the forest.  SciWorks, a nature and science facility, exists to support literacy, science, and life-long longing.  There is an abundance of exhibits that teach visitors about the sciences, and the facility also has its own planetarium where visitors can learn about stars, planets and space. 

The Triad is also known for its ECO adventures, including Segway, bike, and stand-up paddleboard tours.  In addition, there are many museums and historic parks for those who enjoy the arts and stepping back in time.

Shopping in the Triad delivers all the trusted retail names that you know and love.  Hanes Mall has 1,558,860 square feet GLA and has 5 anchor stores and over 200 tenants in all.

Visitors to the Triad will find examples of almost all the large chains, from steakhouses to international fare to fast-food burger and fries. But if you are willing to get away from the area’s main retail areas, you can find a good range of food choices at moderate prices. There is plenty of traditional American fare from dirt-cheap to surprisingly expensive; southern and comfort food restaurants from cafeteria style to white-table cloth establishments; and a heavy dose of diners. Enjoy regional culinary delights like Lexington barbecue, fried chick, and Calabash seafood.  Farm-to-table restaurants that buy local fresh produce from area farms (many organic) are on the rise.

For those with a sweet tooth, Clemmons offers Mrs. Hanes Hand-Made Moravian Cookies.  See the largest hand-made cookie company in the world!  Every cookie is hand-rolled, hand-cut and hand-packed.  See the entire process from mixing the dough to tasting the final product.  Free tours are given January – September.  Famous tasters have included Gregory Peck, Lauren Bacall, Doris Day, Katherine Hepburn and Barbara Walters.
