The West Alabama Babe Ruth League of Demopolis, Alabama has the honor of hosting the 2019 Babe Ruth Baseball 14-Year-Old World Series.
All games will be played at the Demopolis Sportsplex, a 299 acre park that features three lighted, four-field youth and adult baseball/softball complexes with concession/restroom facilities, 6 soccer/multi-use fields (5 lighted), a public pond for fishing, a picnic pavilion with playground, one and a half-mile walking trail, an 18-hole golf course with a pro shop, putting green, and driving range, and offices and equipment shops for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Demopolis, “The City of the People” is a small town blessed with an amazing number of well-preserved historical sites, nationally recognized festivals and events, active community arts programs, beautiful parks, and a civic infrastructure that would be the envy of cities much larger than theirs.
Demopolis offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Tombigee and Black Warrior Rivers which flow past the very doorstep of the Demopolis community provide the opportunity for world class fishing, hunting, water sports, and of course, just sitting at the City Landing park with a big glass of sweet tea watching the river flow by.
Foscue Creek Campground is nestled on the forested lake shore of Demopolis Lake, the largest lake on the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway. Fishing and hunting are the most popular activities in the area. Whether fishing by boat or along the bank of the park, anglers can fish for bass, crappie, bream, catfish and other species. Foscue Creek Nature Trail takes walkers and joggers along the shoreline and provides benches for wildlife viewing and trail markers for tree identification. This facility has both a day-use area and a campground. The 54 campsites feature picnic tables, lantern holders and campfire rings with grill. Campsites are spacious, private and located near or close to the water.
The Demopolis Country Club offers golfing, fishing, tennis and fitness center. The Theo Ratliff Activity Center, open year found, offers swimming, many team sports, and craft classes.
Dining in Demopolis is a delicious affair. Down-home southern cooking will satisfy the hungriest explorer, while those looking for a culinary adventure will find it in their many dining establishments. In the mood for Mexican, Chinese, Italian, or European? They’ve got it all, and good old American food too.
