The roar of buses pulling in from all over the country, loaded with champion teams, signals the official kick off of the 2014 Cal Ripken Major 60 World Series! Players, coaches, umpires, task force members, and volunteers have all assembled in Alachua Florida for orientation.
The morning started with the coaches’ breakfast. The breakfast provides coaches a much needed break after long travels for many as well as an opportunity for staff members to engage in the series events, rules, and festivities.
Shortly after breakfast, players met for orientation. Players filled out profile sheets listing things like their favorite major league player and favorite food. Each player’s profile will be featured on this web site under Meet the Teams!
Players were also informed of the significant awards available as participants of the World Series. Along with education on the importance of staying adequately hydrated during play in the Florida sunshine. National Commissioner Rob Connor engaged in a humorous question and answer session, giving players that answered correctly an official 2014 Cal Ripken World Series baseball featuring orange and black lacing.
Finally players moved into the Glossy Finish studio to have their professional team photo taken along with individual portraits that are featured on Meet the Teams. Players then shuttled off for a short break before games begin at 3:30 PM!
