Remembering Steven Walter Bentley
It is with great sadness that Babe Ruth League bids farewell to our dear friend and teammate, Steven Walter Bentley of Lexington, Kentucky, who passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the age of 64 after several months of declining health.
Steve spent his early years exploring the hills and creeks of Millstone, Kentucky, eventually moving to Lexington with his family in the mid-1960s. After graduating from Sayre School in 1976, he attended Eastern Kentucky University until 1979, where he met his future bride, Kathy J. Smith.
Steve lived a life of giving back, especially to the youth of Lexingon, Kentucky. He was a life-long volunteer for Babe Ruth League – contributor, coach, League President, District Commissioner, and most recently as Eastern Kentucky Babe Ruth State Commissioner, a position he has held since 2012.
His influence was far-reaching, and the long-term impacts of his efforts will continue to be felt by many for years to come.
Professionally, Steve worked in the automotive dealer industry throughout Lexington and surrounding counties for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; their three children Ben, Brandon and Brooke; and two grandchildren Charlotte and Claire.
Babe Ruth League is extremely fortunate to have had Steve Bentley a member of our team. His memory and legacy will live on in all of us.
