Dr. Charles Steinberg has given a lot to the baseball community over the years. In recognition of his influence in Babe Ruth League, he was officially inducted into the New England Babe Ruth League Hall of Fame on December 15, 2015 at McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox. Shown below Dr. Steinberg receives a special plaque during the ceremony from Babe Ruth League Board Member George Lally.
Dr. Steinberg, an influential member of the Red Sox front office for 10 years, was recently named President of the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox this past November. With the Red Sox, Steinberg was an Executive Vice President and Senior Adviser to former team President and CEO Larry Lucchino. He will retain his title of Senior Adviser to new Red Sox President Sam Kennedy.
Steinberg joined the Red Sox in 2002 as Vice President of Public Affairs. He was with the team until 2007, when he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations.
In 2010, Dr. Steinberg joined Major League Baseball as a Senior Adviser to Commissioner Bud Selig, and returned to the Red Sox before the 2012 season.
Steinberg got his start in baseball with the Baltimore Orioles as a 17-year-old intern. He was with his hometown team for 19 years. He left the Orioles in 1995 to join the San Diego Padres as Executive Vice President of Public Affairs.
With the Red Sox, Steinberg was involved primarily with community outreach, marketing and communications. He also orchestrated pregame ceremonies. Since 1969 the Boston Red Sox have invited the New England Region Babe Ruth coaches to participate in an annual clinic at Fenway Park. The coaches are given the opportunity to meet with and receive instructional guidance from the Boston Red Sox Major League staff. Later in the day, the coaches are invited back to watch the game. During in time with the Red Sox, Dr. Steinberg played an instrumental role in the success of "Babe Ruth League Day at Fenway Park."
In addition, Dr. Charles Steinberg has promoted and supported Babe Ruth League not only in the Boston area, but also throughout the United States and internationally.
Dr. Charles Steinberg joins 31 other individuals and organizations who have earned the distinction of being inducted into the New England Babe Ruth League Hall of Fame.
