Freedom Farm Babe Ruth League Visits Jamaica
Recently, the Caribbean Area Commissioner for Babe Ruth League, Greg Burrows, Sr. and President of Freedom Farm Babe Ruth League in Nassau, Bahamas, traveled to Jamaica to help bring Babe Ruth League to the country. Burrows, Sr. was accompanied by a group of coaches and officials including Jamaica Area Commissioner John Issacs, Andrew Thompson, Todd Issacs, and Greg Burrows from Freedom Farm League, who were also eager to help. Their mission was to meet with Vice President Errol Mathis from the Jamaica Baseball Association (JBA) and with Vice President Clyde Shaw of Jamaica Amateur Softball Association's (JASA) to discuss how they could provide information and channels to participate in Babe Ruth League. They also wanted to help in the formation of youth baseball and softball leagues in Jamaica.
During their trip, the group held two camps in Saint Elizabeth and Saint Thomas, with around 40 kids at each camp. The camps were aimed at teaching young players the basics of baseball and softball, such as throwing, catching, hitting, and running the bases. The players also received guidance on the values that Babe Ruth League upholds, such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play.
The group's visit was a huge success, and they were able to establish strong relationships with the JBA and JASA officials. The goal now is to continue communication and make another trip back to Jamaica to train coaches and umpires, among others. Once the foundation is built, they hope to bring the JBA and JASA leagues into the Babe Ruth League Family and have them participate in the World Series.
This is a great initiative for the children of Jamaica, they will soon have the opportunity to learn and play baseball under the values that Babe Ruth League upholds. Baseball and softball has been played in Jamaica for many years, but the games have not received the attention they deserve. With the help of Babe Ruth League and its volunteers, it is hoped that baseball and softball will thrive in Jamaica, and young players will be able to pursue their dreams.
In conclusion, the visit of Greg Burrows, Sr. and the Freedom Farm League to Jamaica was a remarkable achievement, and their efforts to establish youth baseball and softball leagues in Jamaica will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the lives of many children. Babe Ruth League is an organization that teaches important values through baseball and softball, and with its entry into Jamaica, young players will have the opportunity to learn these values and grow into responsible and respectful individuals.
